The Language of Cashmere
THE LANGUAGE OF CASHMERE: A LEXICON
Ten years of Elle & Riley, told through cashmere. Cashmere is not only a material, but a language — understood through softness, ease, memory, and time. Not a trend, or a season. It is defined through feeling. To mark a decade, we invited twelve people close to Elle & Riley to describe what cashmere means to them, in a single word. This is where their words live.
EASE — "Ease is the luxury of not having to try. Soft, comforting, quietly refined—a second skin".
Jaime Ridge, Fashion Creative, United States.
BELONGING — "Belonging is not always a place. Sometimes it is the piece you return to, season after season".
Ariana Tapsell, Fashion Creative, Australia.
STILLNESS — "Stillness is leaving—the city's hum, the office, the noise. It is arriving where the walls know my shape".
Jessica Clarke, Model & Founder, United Kingdom.
LIGHT — "Light binds itself to life like the promise of a new day. Like cashmere, it reveals what is delicate in us".
Luke Foley-Martin, Photographer & Artist, New Zealand.
This is not a collection. It is a discovery of how cashmere is experienced, how it is worn, and how it becomes part of daily life. True luxury is not defined by occasion, but by frequency: the piece returned to, again and again.
DRAPE — "Drape is an act of surrender. It is an invitation for form to find itself".
Sarah Jayne Kavali, Artist, New Zealand.
RETURN — "Return is what earns its place in your life. The pieces you reach for again and again become your rhythm".
Zeenat Wilkinson, Editor & Fashion Creative, New Zealand.
FORM — "Form is what remains when everything else is stripped away. Like cashmere, it holds its shape—and its integrity".
Dan Ahwa, Stylist & Creative Director, New Zealand.
WARMTH — "Warmth is not only softness—it is how something makes you feel. To me, it is complete ease".
Natasha Oakley, Founder, United States.
RESTRAINT — "Cashmere's richness is embodied, not displayed. It gives everything of itself and loses nothing".
Grant Bailey, Furniture Designer, New Zealand.
INSTINCT — "Instinct is the one thing worth trusting. It is the inner voice that knows the way".
Marina Didovich, Stylist, Australia.
PURITY — "The best ingredients ask for the lightest touch. So does cashmere".
Josh Emett, Chef & Restaurateur, New Zealand.
A Decade of Refinement
The Lexicon marks ten years of Elle & Riley. A decade built on refining, resulting in a wardrobe built on permanence rather than change.
